House of Guerra Junqueiro

Guerra Junqueiro, a famous writer whose grave is in the National Pantheon, lived in Vila do Conde between 1899 and 1906. The poet, taking refuge from the bubonic plague that made victims in Oporto, came to this place overlooking the Ave river seeking for good airs that freed him from the deadly epidemic. He lived in this house in Rua dos Banhos, now Avenida Dr. Artur Cunha Araújo, adjacent to the Conde de Ferreira Elementary School (currently the Parish Hall of Vila do Conde).
